The top eight players on the U.S. Ryder Cup team is topped off with World #2 Phil Mickelson. The other seven players in order are: Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Jeff Overton and Matt Kuchar.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin has four wildcard picks and many are wondering if struggling World #1 Tiger Woods will be one of them. Many bookmakers have Woods with short odds to make the team. For the first time since turning pro, he failed to qualify for a roster spot this year. To put it in perspective of how dominant he has been until this year, this is the first time Woods isn’t leading the points standings. But, let’s face it. Woods will make the team if he wants to participate. The best options for Pavin look to be Zach Johnson, Steward Cink or Anthony Kim to join Woods. Johnson is coming off a tie for third at the PGA Championship. Cink knows how to play well at Celtic Manor. Kim was the last player to miss qualifying for the team, despite missing three months due to thumb surgery.

The European team won’t be set for another month. Currently, there will be spots for Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell and U.S. PGA winner Martin Kaymer. The rest remain in question, but likely candidates include Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Francesco Molinari, Paul Casey and Miguel Angel Jiminez. European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie has plenty of talent to choose wildcards from with Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Robert Karlsson and Justin Rose.
