The 2011 Transitions Championship begins play Thursday in Florida. It’s the third straight week for the PGA Tour in the sunshine state. Nick Watney and Martin Kaymer lead the odds to win the golf tournament outright.

Watney is coming off a win in the WGC-Cadillac Championship, which rose him to No. 15 in the world rankings. He has the best scoring average on the PGA Tour with a top ten finish in each of his five events this year. Last year, he finished four in the Transitions Championship.

Kaymer stumbled at Doral last week and finished tied of 24th. The World No. 1 hasn’t finished among the top 20 in three of his last four events, with the runner-up at the WGC-Accenture Matchplay Championship being the exception. This will be his first ever Transitions Championship so he is best avoided this week for your sports betting.

World No. 7 Paul Casey is a better bet to win this week as the only other player from the top 10 competing. He has three straight top 20 finishes and will also be making his debut at this tournament.

Some past winners are competing in the event. Retief Goosen is a two-time winner here from 2003 and 2009. He plays well here with the record for prize money and finished in the top five last year. But, he has only two top five finishes in six starts so he has more each-way value. K.J. Choi is also a two-time winner at Transitions from 2002 and 2006. He also provides decent each-way value after finishing 17th in the Matchplay Championship and coming in as runner-up one shot behind Jim Furyk last year.

Reigning Transitions champion Furyk hasn’t be playing particularly well this year and his generous odds show that. Watney is the golfer to watch this week following his Cadillac Championship win.
