The final leg of the FedEx Cup begins on Sept. 23 in Atlanta, Ga. with the Tour Championship. 30 players are left, not including Tiger Woods who was cut after finishing tied for 15th in the BMW Championship. Woods, however, is a wildcard pick for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. It means that there will be a new FedEx champion this year. Leading the odds for the Tour Championship is Phil Mickelson. The next three in the betting are, Dustin Johnson, Steve Stricker and Matt Kuchar.

Mickelson won the Tour Championship last year. There are two prizes up for grabs next week, the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup. The top five players in the FedEx Cup standings are guaranteed to win the FedEx Cup. Currently, those players in order are Kuchar, Johnson, Charley Hoffman, Stricker and Paul Casey. If any of them win at East Lake, they are guaranteed to win the $10 million FedEx prize. Depending on how the leaderboard turns out, any player in the top 30 can win the FedEx Cup.

World #7 Casey is fifth in the FedEx standings, so he has a good chance to win it all. He’s had a stellar season, but was snubbed as a European Ryder Cup wildcard pick. The lack of faith by European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie should be enough incentive for him to take the Tour Championship. Casey has nice each-way betting value. Other players not to be overlooked who play well on this course are Stricker, Ernie Els and Jim Furyk. All are ranked in the top 10 in the world and finished in the top 10 in 2009.
