The Stewards Cup is the first feature race on Day Five of the Glorious Goodwood Festival. The popular handicap is always competitive and this year is no different. It falls on Saturday, the last day of the premier horse racing event.

Genki leads the Stewards Cup odds. The Irish horse is consistent for how much he races, placing in about 40% of his races. He is coming off a win at Haydock and is likened by bookmakers since he is the reigning champion in the Stewards Cup. But, handicap titles are rarely defended, so he has better value as a lay bet. Palace Moon is also near the top of the antepost odds of the Stewards Cup. He is currently third in the odds, behind Hawkeyethenoo in second. He placed in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot and was the runner-up in the 32Red Handicap this year. He has finished in the top three in eight out of the last 12 starts. He is the best each-way option in this race.

Enact, trained by Sir Michael Sotte, has finished in the top three in his last six races and finished second in his only outing of 2010. He places in about 50% of his starts, so it’s hard to back him for a win in such a big field in the Stewards Cup. He is listed outside the top three by most bookmakers but he has as much potential as they do. If you go for longshots, there are plenty of entries in the Stewards Cup to go with. A spread of small bets on horses priced over 50/1 would be the best option with that route, since this race is likely to produce an upset.
