Shane Mosley has dwindled in value in the recent weeks leading up to his bout with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on May 1. Currently, Mosley pays out at $260 for every $100 bet at SBG Global. Critics are comparing this fight Mosley’s first bout with Oscar de la Hoya, saying Mosley is afraid and unprepared.
“It’s not going to be personal, I’m not going to be upset,” Mosley said. “I’m going to have fun. I’m going to have fun beating Mayweather.”
The fight is scheduled for the same day as the Kentucky Derby and online bookmakers are eagerly anticipating the payday, since some Kentucky Derbys have brought in more action than Super Bowls. Just like Kentucky Derby betting is usually matched by bets at Churchill Downs, big draw boxing bouts are matched by Las Vegas sportsbooks. The match between Mayweather and Mosley will be no different, since this one takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) is a three-time division champion with some past big-name fighters on his record. He has long wanted to get in the ring with Mayweather.
“It won’t be the fight of my life, but I just want to make a point that I’m the best fighter,” Mosley said. “There’s not a welterweight out there who can beat me. I don’t just want to talk about, I want to do it.”
Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) will also be eager to get in the ring after dealing with a blockbuster catastrophe that was his now-cancelled match with Manny Pacquiao. The fight that was expected to bring in more than any single boxing event in the sport’s history at more than $200 million fell through due to a disagreement by Pacquiao over drug testing.
