The Omega European Masters golf tournament begins on Thursday at the Crans-Sur-Sierre course in Switzerland in the Race to Dubai.

Leading the odds to win the event is Johnnie Walker Championship winner and Ryder Cup wildcard pick Edoardo Molinari. Next in line is South African Charl Schwartzel, who will be playing in his first event since tying for 18th place in the U.S. PGA Championship last month. He won twice earlier in the season on the South African leg of the European PGA Tour. He has missed only one cut all year, so he provides some solid each-way value. Also near the top of the betting lines is Miguel Angel Jimenez. The Spaniard was an automatic selection to the Ryder Cup team so the pressure is off this time around. However, it is his third tournament in three weeks so fatigue is a factor, making him a wiser lay bet than straight back bet at the Omega European Masters.

Molinari’s Johnnie Walker victory was his second win in the last couple of months. He won the Scottish Open in July, was a runner-up in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, came in third in the Scandinavian Masters, and came in fourth in each of the Dubai Desert Classic and the Welsh Open. The Italian has skyrocketed to 15th in the world rankings. His great form makes him well worth backing at the Omega European Masters for a third tour win of the year.

British Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen is another name to keep in mind. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship, but has two wins this season and six top 10 finishes. A win in Switzerland would prove it was more than luck that won him the Open Championship. Another player with good betting value includes Welshman Bradley Dredge, who won the Omega European Masters in 2006 and was the runner-up last year behind Alexander Noren of Sweden. His form on this course makes him a good each-way prospect.
