Europe’s richest flat handicap runs on Wednesday with the totesport Ebor. The race takes place on day two of York’s Ebor Festival. Earlier, I previewed the Juddmonte International Stakes, which kicks off the Group One horse races. The totesport Ebor is an unpredictable race that lacks star power but has plenty of value on each-way bets.

Martyr has easily been the best horse in handicaps this season with wins at the Summer Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, Icap Handicap at Royal Ascot and Elecheck Handicap at Newmarket. He also finished in third at the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at the Ascot Festival, so it’s understandable that he leads the betting lines in antepost odds for the totesport Ebor. Martyr is an each-way bet not to overlook.

Overturn mostly only has experience in Scotland and Ireland on the national hunt. But, he has five places in 11 of those flat races. Time will tell if he can handle such a big field, but he is worth a lay bet. Dangerous Midge is coming off a win in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock. His prospects are pretty good for the totesport Ebor. He has four wins in eight career races, but is heavier and has never run further than 12 furlongs. Ebor is 14 furlongs so it would be tough to back him for Wednesday.

There is no clear victor in this horse race that includes a field filled with good form and low weights. That makes Sopranist the longshot to watch. He has great value and has five places in seven starts. If you like a nice gamble, Sopranist offers a generous return on a conservative each-way or place bet. Martyr has too short of odds for an each-way bet, but is clearly the frontrunner at the totesport Ebor. Go with a small each-way bet on Sopranist otherwise.
