We are closing in on the Formula One Drivers Championship title as the German Grand Prix runs this weekend. Mark Webber took Silverstone and is creeping up on championship leader Lewis Hamilton. Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and Jenson Button aren’t too far behind either so we should see some great action at Hockenheim on Sunday.
Vettel has been up and down this season but he should produce in front of a home crowd this weekend. He won the European Grand Prix but struggled at Silverstone and finished in seventh place. He has raced in the German Grand Prix twice before, finishing eighth and second behind Webber in 2009. He may take the crown but he makes a better lay bet for this race.
Webber won at Silverstone after overcoming some controversy. The Australian set aside the drama within his team to become the leading race winner in the 2010 Formula One season. He needs to finish in the top three at Hockenheim to remain ahead of the pack. He is the defending champion so he is a tempting back bet for race winner.
Hamilton has been consistent while others have swayed in the standings. He has produced consistent top five finishes this season, putting him in the lead in the Drivers Championship. He still needs to distance himself. Hamilton has two German Grand Prix appearances a win in 2008 and an 18th place finish in 2009. He’s not worth straight backing, but he does have decent each-way value.
Button finished just beyond the top three at Silverstone, but is still on a top five finish consistent pace. He needs a victory soon to keep up with the rest of the drivers so we may see his best effort at Hockenheim. The Brit has a solid record at the German Grand Prix with six top five finishes in the last nine races. He made the podium twice and is trading fairly high this time around.
