The Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes is another great sprint at the York Ebor meeting. The horse race will be run over 5 furlongs on Friday. I previewed the totesport Ebor handicap earlier. The Nunthorpe Stakes has plenty of big names and the fastest horses on the 2010 international sprint circuit.

Starspangledbanner leads the antepost odds for the Nunthorpe Stakes betting markets after two big wins with the July Cup and Golden Jubilee Stakes at Ascot. His best distance is one furlong longer than the Nunthorpe Stakes, but he still remains a nice lay bet in this unpredictable Ebor race.

Equiano came in second to Starspangledbanner in the July Cup, but he has experience over 5 furlongs with a win at the Group One King Stand Stakes at Ascot. He has finished in the top two positions in all five of his races this season. That kind of success rate for a sprinter is hard to match. He is priced just short of each-way value, but shouldn’t be overlooked for a place in Nunthorpe.

Kingsgate Native is the most consistent horse in the field. But, at the age of five, he only has two Group One wins to his name. He won the Nunthorpe Stakes as a two year old, but that was back in 2007 and he isn’t the same horse he once was. His price is just low enough for a tempting lay bet. One more each-way betting option is Borderlescott, who has placed in every one of his races in 2010. That includes the King’s Stand Stakes where he finished third. He is coming off a win in the Group Two King George Stakes at Goodwood.
