England is under a lot of pressure against Slovenia in their final Group C match on Wednesday in the World Cup. England desperately needs a win to put them in the second round while a draw for Slovenia would be enough for them to advance.

Both teams have met only once internationally. England beat Slovenia 2-1 at Wembley Stadium in September of 2009. England has three wins and two draws in the last five matches, but those two draws put them in a hole. They have scored nine goals and given up four in the last five matches. But, they have only scored one goal in the last two games which lead to the draws.

Slovenia has performed better with four wins and one draw in the last five matches. They are in pole position for the knockout rounds and have scored 11 goals while giving up four. The offense has been stellar with over two goals per game. England is predicted to win by oddsmakers but the draw has better value. Bookmakers have England priced low thinking they’re ready to go on a scoring barrage but Slovenia is on the top of their game. It might be smart to go with the lay bet in case Slovenia pulls off the upset.

England was expected to make the second round from the start of the World Cup. Speculation has surrounded boss Fabio Capello’s decision making as he doesn’t name his lineup until a couple hours before kickoff. One player who is definitely frustrated is Wayne Rooney who has yet to make his name known in international play. He has good value to make it known and score against Slovenia.
