Strong winds have halted play on day two of the British Open Championship but not before some changes to the leaderboard early this morning. Play was suspended because balls were moving on the greens due to the wind. The weather is a huge betting factor in golf at St. Andrews but players are hoping to resume later today.
South African Louis Oosthuizen is the current leader after a 5-under 67 in his second round. He eclipsed day one leader Irishman Rory McIlroy, who finished on par in his second round and remains at 9-under in the tournament. It’s a big surprise for the 27-year-old Oosthuizen to sit atop the board at 12-under. He missed the cut at both the Masters and the U.S. Open. It will be his first time in four British Open appearances to make it to the weekend.
McIlroy shot a 63 in the first round that tied the record for the lowest score in a major championship. It came on a record-setting day at the Open as more than 60 golfers finished below par. Kind weather doesn’t happen often at the Open so players took full advantage. American John Daly also had a chance at beating the scoring record but missed a few putts to finish at 66. He finished 1-over in his second round and sits tied for eighth on the leaderboard. It was a different story today as players were lucky to finish around par with the strong winds. Tiger Woods only got to a long approach putt across the first green before deciding to stop with partners Justin Rose and Camilo Villegas. Woods seems to be getting back on track with a 67 in round one. Bet in play on the Open Championship with live betting at Ladbrokes below.
