With the talk of possible realignments of the BCS college football conferences, there could be a shake-up in the online betting world. Each conference has a reputation to uphold and that could all change drastically with the rearrangement of schools. For example, if you have been around college football for the past few years, you know to bet against Big Ten schools when they play out of conferences. Teams like Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin were getting lay bets based on past reputations alone. But, they were beaten because they aren’t the programs that they once were and their opponents were on the rise.
The Big Ten has 11 teams and is looking to add more. This will put more action on the conference championship, the winner of which has been blown out by SEC teams in recent BCS title games. Notre Dame seems like a good fit but they are satisfied with being mediocre in the increasingly talented Big East. Some MAC teams would fit in regionally in the Big Ten. Instead, the Big Ten is trying to snag Nebraska and Missouri, which would greatly diminish the allure of the Big 12. Because of that, Texas is considering joining the Pac-10.
In any case, the SEC remains the premier conference in college football with each of the last four national championship teams and online gamblers will have to take note. The traditional rivalry games like Nebraska-Oklahoma and Texas-Oklahoma could be forgotten with a new alignment coming. But, this would prevent smaller, lesser-known teams from disrupting order in college football. There are some big decisions to be made in the coming months so keep an eye on the news to be prepared for the season and your bets.
