U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin will announce his four wildcard picks next week and bookmakers are getting in on the action. We will find out on Sept. 7 who is joining the eight qualifying golfers on the U.S. side for the Ryder Cup Championship in October. The automatic bids to the team ended after the PGA Championship, leaving three weeks for Pavin to choose his wildcard picks. Time is winding down and one of those wildcard picks most certainly will be World #1 Tiger Woods, especially if he plays well in the Deutsche Bank Championship this weekend after finishing 12th in the Barclays last week. Woods leads the odds by far for one of the wildcards picks.

Colin Montgomerie received some criticism for leaving out Paul Casey and Justin Rose from the European Ryder Cup team and taking Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari instead. Aside from Woods, there aren’t that many tough decisions for Pavin. Anthony Kim will be the biggest question as he remains in contention for a Ryder Cup spot while recovering from a thumb injury. Two other likely candidates include Zach Johnson and Stewart Cink, both of which are major winners and have Ryder Cup experience. With a young team of Bubba Watson, Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson and Jeff Overton, Pavin might want to go with experience.

The betting action is hot for the fourth U.S. Ryder Cup wildcard spot. Sean O’Hair should be in line for that, but the outside shot goes to Rickie Fowler. A win at the Deutsche Bank Championship for O’Hair, Fowler, Nick Watney, Lucas Glover or Justin Leonard could be enough to snag the final wildcard pick.
