There is more to football betting than fixed odds outright bets. The submarkets are easy to overlook and often require careful consideration, but can provide a big payoff and offer less risk if you do the research.
One of the most popular submarkets is the scorecast, where you predict the correct score and the first goalscorer. Though the prices are generally attractive, remember that any one of 20 players can score, aside from the goalies. 1/20 odds are not worth it and the longer the game stays as a goalless draw, the more substitutions there are. You don’t want a sub coming in and scoring the gamewinner on an otherwise correct bet. Don’t forget about injuries either. Even though the odds are smaller, you’ll want to go with strikers. Most teams have a high-scoring midfielder, like Manchester United with Wayne Rooney and Liverpool with Fernando Torres.
Doubling up a scoreline with a first goalscorer narrows your odds. It is still important to check the percentages that a team scores in each half and the opponent’s scoring times. The average goal count in the Premier League is 2.5 per match. Therefore, 1-0, 1-1 and 2-1 are the most common scorelines. An anytime scorer bet is safer, even if a team statistically scores more in one half than the other.
Another leading submarket is the time of first goal, with different options. For one, it could be up to and including the 19th minute, after the 29th minute, or no goals. Anything around evens is a nice pick. Another option could be smaller time selections, like 1-10 minutes, 11-20 minutes, etc. The shorter prices are earlier. Some research on the teams can make for a big payoff if two teams are expected to hold out for a long period.
There are 50/50 chance bets too, like first or last team to score or total goals odd/even. It depends on the team with this one. For example, Chelsea has scored first in 19 of 28 matches, Manchester United 18 times, and Arsenal and Liverpool both 17. Keep in mind, a goalless draw reduces the odds to 33.3%
The double chance increases your chance of winning but decreases the odds. Obviously, the three scenarios are a home win, away win or a draw. This bet allows you to choose both a win and a draw. You can split it even further with a double result by betting on a halftime/full time result.
Asian handicapping, or a bet against a result happing with a handicap in place at the start of the game, has become popular because it can increase your winning potential compared to a straight outright bet. If that doesn’t work for you, try total goals, over/under or winning margins. Deeper markets have reduced risks.
There are plenty of promotions submarket categories like refunds on lost score predictions if a certain player scores the last goal, among other things. These specials and other great odds can be found on Ladbrokes, William Hill, Titan Bet, Party Bets, and Eurobet.
