Sunday kicked off with the NFC Championship between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. Just like they had done all throughout the playoffs, the Packers played well on the road and won 21-14. It was the 182nd meeting of the storied rivalry.

Aaron Rodgers threw for more yards than anyone else on Sunday (he led the odds to do so), but it was Green Bay’s defense that came through for the win. Rodgers finished with 244 yards passing, two interceptions and a rushing touchdown. The defense held Chicago to 14 points, thanks in part to a Jay Cutler knee injury that took him out in the third quarter. Cutler was replaced by Todd Collins and eventually Caleb Hanie. With not much experience and little time, Hanie got the Bears back on track in the fourth quarter and finished with 153 yards passing and one touchdown but had two interceptions. Still, Hanie threw for more yards in a just over a quarter in Chicago’s loss than Ben Roethlisberger did in the entire Steelers win.

Thanks to a 14-0 first half, Green Bay covered as 3.5-point favorites and the score fell under the 42.5 total. James Starks continues to be relied on in key short-yardage situations and finished with 74 yards rushing and a touchdown. The Packers had three interceptions on defense, including one that went for a score in the fourth quarter and put the game out of reach.

The line is moving for next week’s Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Green Bay opened as 1.5-point favorites and the over/under opened at 46 points. Both defenses of the historic franchises played well on Sunday so it’s not surprising to see the total drop. It looks like most are betting on this to be Rodgers’ year and have everyone in Green Bay saying “Brett who?”
