Home field advantage for the World Series is on the line tonight as the MLB All-Star Game plays in Anaheim, Calif. The American League has won the past seven straight games and has only three losses in the last 22 years. Besides the infamous tie of 2002, the AL is 12-0 SU (straight up) in the past 13 All-Star games. The National League hasn’t won since 1996.

The past seven Midsummer Classics have been high-scoring affairs. 2003 saw a total of 13 runs (7-6 AL win), 2004 was 13 (9-4 AL), 2005 was 12 (7-5 AL), 2006 was a low of five (3-2 AL), 2007 was nine (5-4 AL), 2008 was seven (4-3 AL win in extra innings) and last year’s game ended with seven runs as well (4-3 AL win again).

The young starting pitchers are the AL and NL win leaders. Ubaldo Jimenez of the Colorado Rockies will start for the NL and David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays will start for the AL. Price is 12-4 and tops the AL in ERA at 2.42. He also has 100 strikeouts and was the No.1 overall pick in 2007. He is the youngest pitcher to start an All-Star Game since Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets did for the NL in 1988.

Jimenez, 26, has been on a tear and has a chance at NL Cy Young and league MVP if he keeps it up. He is 15-1 with a 2.20 ERA and 113 strikeouts. He already threw a no-hitter this year and is one of only 13 pitchers in the last 30 years to garner 15 wins in his team’s first 85 games. He is also the first Rockies pitcher to ever start an All-Star Game. Josh Johnson of the Florida Marlins, who leads the NL in ERA at 1.70, was his only competition for the gig.

These are the lineups as announced by Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel and New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi.
