The Tostitos BCS National Championship kicks off Monday between No. 2 Oregon (12-0) and No. 1 Auburn (13-0). These two teams have some great offenses and some interesting player matchups. Let’s take a closer look at what to watch in the best of the skill positions of this game to help you with your sports betting.
Quarterbacks
Darron Thomas (Oregon, sophomore) vs. Cam Newton (Auburn, junior)
Thomas completed 60.7% of his passes while throwing for 2,518 yards, 28 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 151.1 passer rating. His rushing numbers fall plenty short of Newton’s, but both averaged 5.8 yards per carry.
Newton won the Heisman and finished with 28 passing touchdowns, 20 rushing and one receiving. He is one of three BCS players to be a 20-20 man. He’s also one of nine players to pass for 2,000 yards and rush for 1,000. His 188.16 passer rating is first in the country. He’s a do-everything quarterback for Auburn.

Running backs
LaMichael James (Oregon, sophomore) vs. Mike Dyer (Auburn, freshman)
Obviously, James is the most talented of any of the running backs in this game. He was a Heisman finalist and finished with 1,682 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. 15 NFL running backs have come from Oregon and none came close to the two-year production of James.
Dyer finished with 950 yards rushing and five touchdowns. He broke Bo Jackon’s school freshman rushing record and has three 100-yard rushing games. He was ninth in the SEC among running backs and ranked sixth nationally among freshmen.

Wide receivers
Jeff Maehl (Oregon, senior) vs. Darvin Adams (Auburn, junior)
Maehl set a school single-season record with 12 touchdown receptions. He finished the season with 943 yards and 68 receptions. His 24 career receiving touchdowns tie him first all-time for the Ducks.
Adams is Auburn’s top receiver with 48 receptions for 909 yards and seven touchdowns. He broke the SEC title game record with 217 yards, all of which came in the first half, and is approaching 2,000 career yards.
