The Accenture Match Play Championship is in the third round today as 16 players remain. It’s the first World Golf Championship of 2011 and plenty of players are looking to make a statement as some of the world’s top golfers have already gone down. Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk were upset in the first round. Lee Westwood, Phil Mickelson and Paul Casey went down in the second round. Who will be eliminated in the third round?

Westwood, who lost a tight match to Nick Watney, could now lose his World No. 1 ranking to Martin Kaymer, who is up against Hunter Mahan today. Kaymer is the only No.1 seed left. Mahan defeated Robert Karlsson and the winner between him and Kaymer will face either Ben Crane or Miguel Angel Jimenez. Jimenez is on top of his game after his first Ryder Cup singles win last September and knocked out Ryan Palmer in the second round. Crane is no easy opponent after bulldozing Rory McIlory on Thursday.

Watney is expected to beat Ryan Moore and was helped last round when Westwood missed a lot of short puts within 10 feet and lost on the final hole. Moore breezed past K.J. Choi and beat HSBC Champions winner Francesco Molinari in round one. One even matchup is Jason Day and JB Holmes. Day beat Anthony Kim in round one and tournament favorite Paul Casey in round two. Holmes was a late replacement for Tim Clark but beat Camilo Villegas and Ernie Els to get here. A win for Holmes could pit him against fellow Aussie and two-time Accenture Match Play winner Geoff Ogilvy in the quarterfinals.

Ogilvy has been the main market mover. He beat Thomas Bjorn on the 18th green to get to Bubba Watson today. Graeme McDowell is another one to watch as the only No. 2 see left. The 2010 U.S. Open champion doesn’t have a great history in this event but he’s had a somewhat easy road with Heath Slocum, Ross Fisher and now Y.E. Yang. Matt Kuchar, a No. 4 seed, is the highest-seeded American left and the only No. 4 seed to make it to the third round. Luke Donald is the only No. 3 seed left and is facing the lowest seed left, No. 15 Matteo Manassero.
