The PGA Tour continues on Thursday with the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at the TPC Louisiana. World No. 3 Luke Donald leads the outright odds for the golf tournament after finishing runner-up at The Heritage at Hilton Head.
Donald lost in a playoff to Brandt Snedeker at The Heritage last week. He had a chance of snagging the World No. 1 ranking but that went back to Lee Westwood, who won the Indonesian Masters on the Asian Tour. The top world ranking is up for grabs again this week but Westwood is competing in the Ballantine’s Championship. Donald is better at the short game, which doesn’t bode well for this long course in New Orleans. He has finished in the top 10 in each of his last five tournaments, including a win at the WGC-Accenture Matchplay Championship.
Second in the betting is Nick Watney, who got his first PGA Tour win at the 2007 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Besides for a 46th-place finish at the Masters, the WGC-Cadillac winner has been consistent with five top 10s in seven events. Steve Stricker is third in the betting and finished tied for seventh here two years ago. He came back from injury last year to finish 11th at the 2011 Masters.
Justin Rose also offers some value after tying for 11th at the Masters with Stricker. The Englishman has three top 10 finishes and has been in the top 25 in all but one appearance this year. It will be difficult for Snedeker to follow up his Heritage win with another since he doesn’t have a good record at TPC Louisiana.
Bubba Watson tied for fifth here in 2007. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans had some surprise winners like Jason Bohn in 2010, Jerry Kelly in 2009, and Chris Couch in 2006.
