The NHL Stanley Cup Finals will be decided tonight in Game 7 between the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks with the series tied 3-3. It’s the seventh time since 1994 that the Stanley Cup Finals have gone down to Game 7, the most of any sport during that span. The home team has won every game in this series and Vancouver hosts tonight.
It’s been a long Stanley Cup Finals drought for both teams. Vancouver is vying for its first ever Stanley Cup and first for a Canadian team since 1993. Boston could win its first Stanley Cup since 1972 in the heyday of Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito.
In Game 6, Boston had to resort to goalie by committee. Roberto Luongo allowed three goals on only eight shots before being replaced by Cory Schneider, who saved 30 of 32 shots. Tim Thomas saved 36 of 38 shots to get the win. The Bruins had goals by Milan Lucic, David Krejci, Andrew Ference, Brad Marchand and Michael Ryder.
The Canucks opened as money line favorites and have dipped slightly but remain the favorite. The over/under total is at five goals. As far as trends go between these two teams, the under is 4-0-1 in the last five games in Vancouver and 6-2-2 in the last 10 meetings overall. The favorite is 6-0 in the last six games while the home team is also 6-0.
