Shortly following the tip-off between Marquette and North Carolina, No. 1 Kansas (34-2) faces No. 12 Richmond (29-7) in the Southwest Regional of the Sweet 16 on Friday. Kansas is the overwhelming favorite in this matchup against the underdog Richmond.

As predicted, Kansas advanced to the Sweet 16 with little trouble. The Jayhawks have had a pretty easy road and have looked just as dominant as No. 1 overall seed Ohio State. They beat Boston University 72-53 and then defeated Illinois 73-59. The front court of twin brothers Marcus and Markieff Morris has been unstoppable. They combined for 31 points against Boston and followed that up with a combined 41 points and 24 rebounds against Illinois. This is the 18th Sweet 16 appearance for Kansas. Only North Carolina, Duke and Kentucky have more.

Richmond was underrated coming into the NCAA Tournament but not many people expected the Spiders to make the Sweet 16. They had a big test and upset Vanderbilt 69-66 in their opener. Kevin Anderson scored 25 points and hit a floater with 18.7 seconds left to seal the victory. Then, they cruised past Morehead State, which upset Louisville, for a 65-48 win. Justin Harper had 19 points and shut down Morehead State’s big man Kenneth Faried. This is the second time the Spiders have reached the Sweet 16 as a No. 12 seed or lower. But, they haven’t faced anywhere near the talent they will against Kansas on Friday. I expect Kansas to win and cover the spread.

Kansas is 17-16-1 ATS and hit the over in 20 of 34 games. The Jayhawks are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against the Atlantic 10. Richmond is 21-12 ATS and it the under in 19 of 32 games. The Spiders are 5-0 ATS in their last five neutral site games.
