Chicago came away with a 103-82 win in Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference finals and remains a 2-point favorite for Game 2 on Wednesday night. Miami had a better shooting percentage than Chicago (47 to 43), but 16 Heat turnovers proved the difference.
The Bulls’ second-ranked overall defense held Miami to 34 points in the second half. Miami and its fifth-ranked overall defense looked lackadaisical at times. The Heat continue to look for scoring beyond the trio of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. James and Wade came into the series averaging 26 points per game. But, Wade finished with 18 points and James shot five of 15 for 15 points in Game 1. Bosh led the way with 30 points and nine rebounds.
Chicago had a 45-33 rebounding edge and Derrick Rose continued to pick apart the opposing defense. Averaging 30 points per game and eight assists in the NBA playoffs, Rose finished with 28 and six. Luol Deng continues to be a matchup problem for opposing teams as he finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Carlos Boozer had 14 points and nine rebounds. Miami will need to get to the line more in Game 2. The Heat were among the top 3 in free throw attempts during the regular season but had just 15 attempts in Game 1. They will also need to make some adjustments on defense to stop this series from getting out of hand.
Miami is 12-3 SU in its last 15 games. The total has gone under in six of its last eight games at Chicago. Chicago is 24-2 SU in its last 26 games at home. The Bulls are 10-2 SU in their last 12 games at home against the Heat.
